Love : ???

One of the reasons why we crave love, and seek it so desperately, is that love is the only cure for loneliness, and shame, and sorrow. But some feelings sink so deep into the heart that only loneliness can help you find them again. Some truths about yourself are so painful that only shame can help you live with them. And some things are just so sad that only your soul can do the crying for you.

Individuals who want to believe that there is no fulfillment in love, that true love does not exist, cling to these assumptions because this despair is actually easier to face than the reality that love is a real fact of life but is absent from their lives.

  1. I would suggest that they cling to such assumptions as a defence against the subconscious fear that they are unloveable or unworthy of love. Further, that the logical implications of such fear is that there must be something wrong with them, and hence shame.

True love is unconditional; it has forgiveness as an inherent aspect of it. This applies to one’s one self. I argue that, as opposed to superficial appearances, a narcissist’s fundamental problem is that he or she is truly incapable of loving themselves and hence truly loving others. This is instructional in considering the broader topic.

We should all seek to learn to love unconditionally as part of growth throughout life. This includes our true selves. Self-forgiveness is a part of this.
